How to cover current affairs for TSPSC Group 1 2022

This article is regarding current affairs for TSPSC Group 1 2022.Current affairs plays an important role in group 1 examination. Most of the questions in prelims, mains and interviews are all about current affairs. With perfect strategy one can ace the exam very simply.

HOW TO COVER CURRENT AFFAIRS?

There are three ways to cover current affairs.

One is reading the newspaper.Second is referring to a monthly magazine and third is yearly compilation by different institutions or Publications.

But it is most important to note that you should refer to any one of these and revise multiple times.

Besides these resources also read government magazines, surveys and reports for more data.

HOW MANY MONTHS CURRENT AFFAIRS IS REQUIRED?

More than 6 months of current affairs is required to clear this exam. But on a safe side it is advisable to cover 1 year current affairs.

IS NEWSPAPER READING MUST FOR EXAM OR CAN WE RELY ON COACHING MATERIAL?

It is most important to read the newspaper. Almost 60% of each stage of the exam is from current affairs so you can’t skip reading the newspaper.

But for working aspirants ( who prepare for exams while doing some job) it is difficult to dedicate much time as it takes 2 to 3 hours of time.

Most of the experts advise to at least read the major news  without  making any notes and rely on any of the monthly compilation from reputed institutes.

WHAT TO READ AND WHAT NOT TO READ FROM NEWSPAPER?

Reading a newspaper is a time taking process when one does not know what to read from it.

First read the syllabus thoroughly. Then you will have an idea about what is important from an examination point of view.

For example in a newspaper if there is news about the appointment of a governor to a state. Think how it is relevant to our examination. It covers polity subjects.  Read about  appointment, procedure, powers, difference between governor and president in M.Laxmikanth book.

Read editorials . It will help you to analyse the news in a broad aspect and helps you to have an opinion in your view.

HOW TO PLAN SCHEDULE FOR REVISING CURRENT AFFAIRS?

Since current affairs is a daily learning process dedicate at least 3 hours of your time for current affairs ( if you are preparing the whole day)  or at least 1.5 hours ( if you are a working aspirant).

Divide that time between daily current affairs and revision.

For example if you are devoting 3 hrs for current affairs  one half of that time is given to today’s news ( newspaper or news analysis) . The other half gives it to revising the previous month’s current affairs.

SHOULD WE REFER TO SUBJECT WISE CURRENT AFFAIRS?

It is most important to read current affairs according to the subject.

Segregate the news According to subject.

If you are reading a newspaper and preparing notes from it then segregate your notes subject wise.

Make a seperate section for polity, economics, science and so on

If you are relying on monthly magazines it is already given in a subject wise manner.

Make sure that while you are reading the current news, go back to the static portion and revise them because there can be some questions in prelims.

WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF CURRENT AFFAIRS IN DIFFERENT STAGES OF THIS EXAMINATION?

Majority of the questions are from current affairs in all the three stages.

In prelims almost 60% of the questions come from current affairs either directly or indirectly.

For example if the governor  of any state  is in news constantly for a few months then there is a chance asking about his/her appointment, articles related, powers and function.

Most of the mains are about current affairs and the interview is all about current affairs and current happenings.

CAN WE SKIP CURRENT AFFAIRS AND CLEAR THE EXAMINATION?

My answer is simply NO because most of the paper is about current affairs. It is also most important for a public servant to know what is happening around him/ her. So it is mandatory to follow the news .
