SATAVAHANA
Historians refer satavahanas into EARLY satavahanas ( till the accession of gautami putra satakarni to throne) and LATER satavahanas( from gautami putra satakarni to last ruler).
SIMUKA
According to puranas , simuka ( andhra race) , killed SUSARMA ( kanva dynasty) ruler remo removed authority of sunga and established kingdom
- His capital is Kotilingala,where his coins were found.
- He is the only person who bore the name satavahana.
- Three coins were found: SRICHIMUKHA, SRI SATAVAHANA, SIRI CHIMUKHA SATAVAHANA.
- In Naneghat inscription it was written RAYA SIMUKHA SATAVAHANA SIRIMATI about him.
- He embraced Jainism and several temples.
- He ruled over 23 years.
- During his India’s he became cruel and anti- people he was deposited and murdered.
- He wanted us to be evil doers in the jaina literature as he followed vedic dharma in his end days .
KRISHNA ( KANHA)
Brother of simuka, became the king.
According to puranas he ruled for 18 years.
He was the first ruler of satavahana who had issued inscriptions.
In his reign satavahana kingdom extended in the west up to Nasik.
SATAKARNI 1
- He is the third king in the list of puranas.
- He was the son of Simukha.
- He was the person who was mentioned as SATAKARNI in Naneghat inscription.
- He ruled for 18 years.
- His wife is Nayanika ( naganika).
- She performed several sacrifices in association with her husband.
After the death of her husband till her son VEDISRI became major she took the administrative responsibility.
Saatakarni performed two asvamedha sacrifices,one RAJASUYA sacrifice,and 20 other rites. Also donated karshapanas, cows, elephants and horses.
Naganika described her husband as ‘APRATHIHATA’ ,’CHAKRA’ ,’VEERA’, ‘SURA’ , ‘DAKSHINAPATHI’.
Matsya purana mentioned a list of 18 kings between SATAKARNI 1 and gautami putra saatakarni( 23rd king).
SATAKARNI 2
- He was the sixth ruler
- He ruled for 56 years.
- He has occupied Malwa from the sakas.
After SATAKARNI 2 eight kings LAMBODARA , APEELAKA, MEGHA SWATHI,SWATI, SKANDA SWATI,MRIGENDRA SAATAKARNI,KUNTALA SATAKARNI and SWATI KARNI ruled in succession.
Among them a big copper coin considered to be of April was found in Chanda district who was the eighth ruler in the puranas and has ruled for 12 years.
After the death of pulumavi , saka king NAHAPANA attacker satavahana kingdom occupied area in Maharashtra and assumed title MAHAKSHATRAPA.
HALA
He was the 17th king among satavahana emperors
Lover of literature
Himself is a literatteur.
He has written GATHASAPTHASATHI.
He married simhala Princess Leela vathi.
He has the title of KAVIVATSALA.
BANA in his HARSHA CHARITRA mentioned that GATHASAPTHASATHI is written by HALA.
LATER SATAVAHANAS

GAUTAMI PUTRA SAATAKARNI.
- He was the greatest monarch of all satavahana rulers.
- He was a 23 rd king
- He ruled effectively for 24 years.
- He’s mother gautami balasree has issued Nasik inscription (which mentions his conquest and greatness) after his death.
- Gautami balasri call herself in Nashik inscription as the mother of a great person and grandmother of another king ( vasistiputra pulumavi ,son of gautami putra saatakarni).
- He defeated sakas, yavanas and palavas.
- He conquered Anupa aparantha , saurastra,kukura , Avanti kingdoms.
- The kingdom of gautami putra Saatakarni comprised ASIKA ( Hyderabad and medak districts ), ASMIKA ( Nizambad, Aurangabad district) MULAKA,APARANTA,ANOOPA,VIDARBHA,AKARA, AVANTI, SAURASTRA, KUKURA.
- He has the title of lord of mountain regions such as vindhya,Achavata pariyata, vahya ,kanvagiri ,siritana, Malaya, Mahendra, Sita chekora.
- Nasik inscription has praised him as SATAVAHANAKULA YAASH PRATISTAPANA KARA, KSHATRIYA DARPAMANA MARDANA,KSHAHARATA VAMSA NIRAVESHESHAKARA, SAKA YAVANA, PAHLAVA NISHUDANA.
- He was called in the inscriptions as eka Brahmhana ,ekaSura ,ekadanurdhana agama nilaya .
- He has the title of TRISAMUDRATOYAPITAVAHANA( one who has horses which rank water in three seas)
- His coins in hundreds were founded kondapur and peddabankur.
VASHISHTIPUTRA PULUMAVI.
- His inscriptions were available it Nasik, karle,Amaravathi ,Myakadoni,banawasi
- His capital was DHAANYAKATAKAM.
- In nasik inscription he was called as DAKSHINAPATISWARA.
VASHISHTI PUTRA SATAKARNI.
Silver and lead coins with his name were found in Godavari and Krishna regions .
According to junagadh inscription, he was defeated twice by Kshatrapa rudradaman.
Kanheri inscription was issued by his queen .
YAGNASRI SATAKARNI.
- He was the last greater satavahana ruler.
- He was the 26th ruler in Puranas.
- He ruled for 29 years.
- He issued coins having figure of ship with two sails.
- He was praised as TRISAMUDRADISWARA in Bana’s HARSHACHARITHA .
- He got defeated at the hands of rudradaman and lost western kingdom.
After YAGNASRI SATAKARNI, threebl satavahana kings ruled for 17 years. They were VIJAYA SATAKARNI,CHANDASRI, PULUMAVI 4
Pulumavi 4 is the last ruler,who issued Myakadoni inscription.

Abhiras Ikshvakus,Chutus, Pallavas became aggressive and became independent and established their own kingdom.
